About Me
Hello! I am Oxana.
I love and know how to cook.
Heading 3
My grandma was an amazing cook and could set a breathtaking dinner out of nothing. Both my mother and great-grandmothers cooked well. Though no one ever taught me how to cook, but from my early teens I always had a passion and huge interest in cooking. From my early age, I’ve started learning how to cook by reading culinary pages in women's magazines and watching TV programs.
Back then, there were no computers therefore no Internet, and our only option was to either cut out recipes from newspapers and magazines or copy them by hand. With the arrival of the Internet, our life has become much easier: nowadays, you can find any recipe at any given time. But nothing can be compared to those cherished and most interesting recipes that are passed on through generations.
We may not think about it, but all our life memories are somehow connected with food. I still remember the taste of pies which, during my work at school, my girlfriends and I were buying for our lunches at a nearby bakery. I cannot forget the taste of my very first pizza, which I tasted back in the 80s on the shores of the Adriatic Sea during my first trip abroad to Yugoslavia. For many years I have been trying to recreate the unforgettable taste of one special soup I ate in Riga. Many times throughout the years, I was telling my daughter how mind-blowing a crab salad was which I ate in Cyprus over 30 years ago.
Over the years, I have collected a huge number of recipes. One day I had an irresistible desire to design a recipe book for my daughter. But at some point I wondered: "How can I incorporate photographs in this book? After all, there are such intricacies of cooking or, for example, the final look of a dish that is difficult to describe in words - you need to see it." After lots of thinking, I thoughts to myself; why not create a virtual recipes book and share them not only with my daughter, but also with everyone who is interested in it? This is how the idea for this culinary blog was born.
I've been living in Montreal for 27 years now, but I was born and raised in Russia, which is where most of my recipes come from.
In my blog, you will find classic Russian and Eastern European recipes, as well as my favorite recipes from around the world.
Very often, the technology of preparation of a particular dish is much more important than the ingredients and their quantity in the recipe. I do not just want to provide you with recipes from A to Z, but also show different variations for them, I want to teach you how to combine and interchange different ingredients.
All the dishes, the recipes of which you will find here, are prepared by me and happily eaten and approved by my family members, my friends, relatives and neighbors. Photos were taken by me and my daughter, Acia.
I really hope you will like the recipes that you will find on the pages of my culinary blog and you will want to cook these dishes for yourself and your loved ones.
I wish you all the best and bon appetite!
