Roasted Brussels sprouts

If you have never roasted Brussels sprouts before, I highly recommend giving it a try! 5-10 minutes for preparation, 20 minutes in the oven - and a delicious side dish is ready! By the way, Brussels sprouts prepared in this way can also be as a main course.

Crispy and golden on the outside and tender on the inside. With a smoky bacon flavor! Great combination!

Ingredients

Brussels sprouts - 0.5 kg. For the better result, try to use sprouts that are roughly the same size

Bacon - 2-3 stripes

Walnuts – 0.5 cup or more, chopped

Salt, pepper - to taste

Olive oil - 2-3 tablespoons

Balsamic cream - 1 tablespoon (or balsamic vinegar with added sugar)

Dry parsley, thyme and garlic - 1 tsp. each

Lemon juice - 1 tbsp.

Cooking instructions:

Step 1

Preheat oven to 375F. Clean and trim the Brussels sprouts, cut them in halves and place them in an oven safe dish. Make sure to dry them very well before roasting.

Step 2

Combine the oil with salt, pepper, herbs, lemon juice, and balsamic cream. If you don't have a balsamic cream, you can use balsamic vinegar, but mix it with a teaspoon of sugar until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the seasoned oil into the Brussels sprouts and stir.

Step 3

Spread the Brussels sprouts out on the pan without too many touching. Overcrowding causes you to steam them instead of roasting.

Step 4

Slice the bacon into thin strips and sprinkle them on top of the c Brussels sprouts. I cut up the bacon with scissors - it turns out faster. Sprinkle with walnuts on top.

Step 5

Roast the Brussels sprouts in the oven uncovered for 20-25 minutes until crisp, brown and caramelized on the outside and tender on the inside. Be sure to start with a hot oven. Do not disturb them while baking.

By the way, by removing the bacon you can make a wonderful vegetarian (and even vegan) dish. But it's delicious with bacon!

Brussels sprouts are low in calories but high in fiber, vitamins and minerals: they are especially rich in vitamin K, also high in vitamin C. In addition, Brussels sprouts contain small amounts of vitamin B6, potassium, iron, thiamine, magnesium and phosphorus. So besides being tasty, it's also very healthy!

And one more thing: if you don't have fresh Brussels sprouts, you can use frozen ones. But in this case put them into a boiling water for 1 minute before baking, dry them with a paper towel, then follow all the steps without cutting them in half.
